Gentlemen's ranches, resplendent in all their romantic connotations, lie in relative abundance in the areas surrounding Telluride. Six different mesas (defined as high plateaus surrounded by river drainages), each within 20 to 40 minutes from town, offer tremendous possibilities for a private retreat or a pastoral equine estate. Nowhere else in The West will one find 50 to 2,000 acre parcels with more profound views, an abundance of wildlife, and proximity to culture and recreation than here in telluride. Other opportunities for a gentler, more relaxed pace of life can be found in the smaller hamlets of Norwood, Placerville and Ridgway. Rodeo grounds, historic cattle ranches, and century old Victorians coexist graciously with newer estates in the fertile valleys surrounding Telluride.
